Ibri II 500MW Solar PV Power Plant Project
Roughly 300 kilometers west of Muscat just off the Buraimi–Ibri Highway, the largest utility-scale solar park in Oman is nearing completion. Extending over 13 million square meters and containing about 1.4 million solar panels, the solar park will provide renewable energy for about 33,000 homes once completed and avoid the emission of approximately 800,000 tons of CO₂-equivalent per year, contributing to achieving Oman’s nationally determined contribution under the Paris Agreement. Our high-efficiency PV cells are suitable for a broad range of module applications including private rooftop installations, commercial and industrial rooftop installations, remote power generators and large-scale power plants on the ground and on the water.
Ibri II Solar IPP: The 500 MW Solar PV project (Ibri II Solar IPP) began commercial operation in July 2021. It is owned and operated by Shams Ad Dhahira Generating Company under a PPA with OPWP. The project is configured with single-axis tracking and bi-facial PV panels.

The objectives of the Project are to:
(a) increase the availability of the renewable power generation capacity and improve the balance between supply and demand during the peak hours in Oman’s Main Interconnected System grid which serves Muscat and northern Oman.
(b) reduce the dependence on gas and other fossil fuels for electricity generation and move to a more balanced and environmentally sustainable energy mix.

The N-type high-efficiency bi-facial cells and modules installed across the sprawling site are deemed ideal for Oman's environmental conditions. At peak generation capacity, the plant will produce enough carbon-free electricity to power an estimated 33,000 homes, while also offsetting offset 340,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.
History
The Ibri II Solar PV Independent Power Plant Project (the Project) is a 500 mega-watt greenfield solar photovoltaics power plant in Ibri, Oman which is being developed by Shams Ad-Dhahira Generating Company SAOC (the Borrower), a special purpose vehicle incorporated under the laws of Oman.
Oman Power and Water Procurement Co (OPWP) awarded the Project to the consortium led by International Company for Water and Power Projects (ACWA Power) following a detailed financial, technical and legal evaluation of bid proposals received through international competitive tender. The Project is implemented under Build, Own and Operate model under a bilateral arrangement of offtake by OPWP for 15 years from the Scheduled Commercial Operation Date on June 1, 2021. The Power Purchase Agreement was signed between OPWP and the Borrower on April 30, 2019.
